Montevideo’s Hill (El Cerro)

The Cerro de Montevideo, a 135-meter high hill, holds on its top the Fortaleza General Artigas, a military fort whose construction finished in 1811, a key year in the history of our country. In its inside there is a lighthouse, the first one in the River Plate, and a military history museum. At the bottom of the hill are the Parque Vaz Ferreira, the seafront and the Cerro beach, places not to be missed. The hill summit offers a commanding view of the bay of Montevideo.
